Dr. Hossain joined NCCHE in August 2008 as a post doctoral research associate with his more than 10 years of experience in working with remotely sensed data acquired by different optical (both multispectral and hyperspectral) and microwave satellite missions, platforms and sensors. His major  focuses of research interests include the applications of digital image processing techniques and satellite observations in soil surface moisture estimation, levee slide detection and prediction, and fluvial geomorphology. Currently, Dr. Hossain is providing remote sensing and GIS support to enhance the applications of hydrodynamic models (CCHE1D, CCHE2D and CCHE3D) developed at NCCHE.

Dr. Hossain received his Ph.D. and MS degrees in Geological Engineering with an emphasis in Remote Sensing from The University of Mississippi in December 2008 and August 2004, respectively. His Ph.D. dissertation research was funded by a NASA Rapid Prototyping Capability (RPC) Project at UMGC. Dr. Hossain received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Geology from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh with an emphasis in GIS and Remote Sensing. He worked as a GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst for about four years at the Center for Environment and GIS Services (CEGIS) in Bangladesh, as GIS Technician for about a year and a half  at the University of  Mississippi Geoinformatics Center (UMGC), and as Graduate Research Assistant  for about six years at UMGC.  He also worked as a Graduate Instructor and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Geology and Geological Engineering Department at The University of Mississippi.  He is a member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), Sigma Xi Scientific Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society. He is a reviewer of several journals including ‘Remote Sensing’ and ‘International Journal of Remote Sensing’.  Dr. Hossain has published more than 25 peer reviewed and conference proceedings articles, and one invited book chapter. He has also presented at several invited seminars.
