CCHE2D Requirements

CCHE2D is a software package for the simulation of two-dimensional unsteady flows and sediment transport in dendritic channel networks.  The package includes the following software:

-        Unsteady flow model, with support for multiple flow inlets and outlets.

-        Sediment transport model (non-equilibrium transport of nonuniform sediment mixtures).

-        Graphical user interface for Windows, implemented using OpenGL.

Note:  CCHE2D requires the NCCHE Mesh Generator, which is distributed as a separate package, also downloadable from the NCCHE web site.

Software Limitations:

Please contact NCCHE for specific information.

Computer Requirements:

CCHE2D works with any version of Microsoft Windows (32-bit).  The main requirements are:

-         Memory requirements vary according to the complexity of the simulation domain. A minimum of 512MB of memory is recommended.

-         CPU:  Intel, AMD or compatible, 1GHz, or faster.

-         Hard-drive: 40MB for installation of CCHE2D, plus storage for model results.

CCHE2D requires an OpenGL-compatible graphics card.

Compatibility with older versions:

Because CCHE2D is a program still under development, it was not possible to
ensure compatibility with data files created with older versions of the program.
Therefore, some care is necessary in case you have simulation results or other
data files created by or used with older versions of CCHE2D.

Installing this new version of CCHE2D does not remove any older versions you may
have installed on your computer. However, data files from older versions are not
compatible with the new version of the software (except .geo files).

Unless you have simulation results obtained with older versions you still want to
visualize, we recommend you uninstall older versions before installing CCHE2D
version 2.2.

It is recommended that you create new datasets for the new version starting with
a mesh file (.geo). Older .geo files continue to work with the new version.

Please note that existing CCHE2D files (.geo, .lof, etc) will be automatically
associated with the new version of the model. Double-clicking on one of these
files will start the newest version of the CCHE2D interface, and errors can
occur if the datasets were created by older versions.

In order to avoid problems when more than one version of the model is installed
on the same computer, proceed as follows:
1. Start the desired version of CCHE2D from the Windows Start menu. Older
versions are identified as CCHE2D-GUI in that menu. The current version is
identified as CCHE2D 2.2.
2. Use the option to open a Geometry file (.geo), from the File menu of the
CCHE2D interface. Select only datasets that were created with corresponding
version of the model.

Known Issues:

Graphical Output (BMP images):

It has been reported that images (BMP files) created by CCHE2D-GUI do not
display correctly in some systems, and problems exist when they are inserted
into other documents. Some graphical programs can open the images correctly.
This problem has been detected on some laptop computers, and it appears to be
related to OpenGL support of some graphics cards.

Program Installation and File Association

If an older version of CCHE2D is removed AFTER the new version is installed, the
association of CCHE2D file extensions (.geo, .lof, etc.) to the CCHE2DGUI.exe
program will be removed. In order to fix this problem, simply reinstall the new
version of CCHE2D. Alternatively, you can fix the file associations manually, so that
.geo and .lof files open with the CCHE2DGUI.exe program (default location is
" C:\Program Files\NCCHE\CCHE2D 2.2\Program\CCHE2DGUI.exe")
